Ahead of tomorrow’s match versus Barnsley at Sincil Bank in League One, which will be refereed by Ross Joyce, we have done a Q&A with a Barnsley supporter. Thank you to Carlo from The Reds Report for answering our questions!

NEW QUIZ: How much can you remember from last season’s match at home versus Barnsley? Have a go at the quiz at the bottom of the page or simply CLICK HERE (opens in a new window)!

You can discuss what has been said in this article here, and get involved with our pre-match discussion!

How long have you supported Barnsley?

Since the early 90’s…

What were and now are your hopes and expectations for the 2023/24 season?

We always hoped to go “1 better” than the heartbreaking defeat against Wednesday at Wembley. Currently 6th in the league I suppose you can say we’re somewhat on track. League position is greatly “subsidised” by an excellent away form. At Oakwell, performances have been somewhat underwhelming (apart from the opening day of the season).

What do you think of your manager?

The jury is still out. Evident lack of a “plan B” difficult job given best players were sold (again) during the summer.

Style of play and tactics – direct/passing/hybrid?

In our better seasons over the past 6 years, the high-tempo tempo and high-press style of play gave us an identity.

This year is different 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 will be the likely formation relying heavily on the 2 wingers.

One(s) to watch now and in the future?

Just coming back from fitness is midfield maestro Luca Connell and new number 6 Maël de Gevigney.

Random fact about your Club?

As a club, Barnsley FC, can’t compete in merits with the biggest club, but it has a record of having played over 70 seasons in the second division (the second top league in England).

Which were your favourite and least favourite matches involving Barnsley?

The FA Cup run of 2008 gave us 2 memorable matches: defeating Liverpool at Anfield and then winning at home versus Chelsea.

Which sides do you think will finish in the top six and which do you think will finish in the bottom four?

Portsmouth, Oxford, Bolton, Peterborough, Barnsley and Derby.

Reading, Cheltenham, Carlisle and Exeter.

What are your thoughts on being removed from The FA Cup?

Another own goal. There’s been a few questionable off-field decisions this season but this one has been rightfully condemned by the whole fanbase. Fans on the night questioned how/why this player was starting as he was out on loan for the 1st match. Whoever didn’t pick up on that needs a stern talking to.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

You’re a bit of a bogey team for us. Players will need to be a lot better than in the last few outings to get anything. The Barnsley following have sold out the away end and will be doing their best to be our 12th man.

What is your prediction for this match?

The club owes the fans a superb performance and result given the FA Cup debacle and many will want to cash that in this Saturday. We’re letting our heart rule this one and go for 1-2 and a good away win for the Tykes.
