Views from sedgleyimp following yesterday’s 2-0 win away at Port Vale in League One: “Another one of those not-for-the-purist games but one we were pretty much in control of for the majority and one where we dug in to get the three points. At times the game became one of those in which we often get dragged down to the standard of the opposition and end up dropping points. Not today as the players clearly had the game plan firmly in mind and stuck to it despite us being a little down to the bare bones again and some players running on empty in the latter stages as it did seem to be a heavy and large pitch to play on.

Good team performance I’d say with everyone playing fine and no one especially standing out which is a good sign for the future.”

Dreaming of McAuley: “I thought it was an entertaining game although low on quality, their centre back and keeper were good fun!

Where would we be if we’d had House/Taylor/Walker earlier?

I would definitely look at Garrity if they go down.”

Merthyr Imp: “So, got home half an hour ago, and a few of my thoughts without having watched any highlights or read anything.

A strange game in that we hardly created two chances to score all game and yet won 2-0.

After the gift of the opening goal, we played well within ourselves. With their bad run of form you could tell Port Vale were hesitant and an earlier second goal would have killed them off – would like to have seen us push forward a bit more to try and get it, but on the other hand we were having to cope with what was not exactly a first-choice lineup or formation.

Personally, I wasn’t sure it was a penalty and was surprised the ref gave it – especially as he seemed to give us very little all game.

Man of the match for me was Erhahon just ahead of O’Connor. I must say it’s looking more and a more a good move to have replaced Smith with McGrandles. Whatever Smith’s qualities or potential I don’t believe he would have done as well as McGrandles today.”
