Post-match reaction from the Match Thread:
APHLCFC: “Dreadful. They’ve absolutely battered us. A proper league one side. Strong, quick, direct. No unnecessary passes, no slowing the game down.
We had zero creativity, we look like we’re going to concede every time the ball goes in the box despite having 3 centre halves and a giant in goal.
Midfield constantly outnumbered and never have a forward passing option.
The ball never sticks up front, opposition central defenders can just hang their kit up and put it back on next week.
Clearly not to blame, but MS has a big job on, he’s the 3rd bloke to have a go this year and none of them have managed to get us close to competent at defending set pieces. There’s no leaders on the pitch, nobody dragging people into position, it’s all too nice.
But at least we dominated possession.”
PortMacImp: “We struggled to cope with the intensity and physicality of Stevenage in the second half.
If we can acquire a goal threat this team will be better able to exploit the times in games when we are dominating the play as in many periods throughout the first half.
Some positives for Michael Skubala to take into the coming weeks.
Someone needs to let Michael Hortin know that is Skubala, not Skubula.”
PerthImp: “Out-physicalled by Stevenage in the second half. Considering we aren’t really a physical side we did OK. Stevenage only scored with a scrappy scramble from within the 6 yard box, which is what they do – smothering and mugging and bullying. Promising signs though and I look forward to what Michael Skuballa brings to the side if the first half was anything to go by. What worries me now is if Vale is injured, looks like we are relying on Adelukan again on Tuesday night. Not too disheartened. Give us two or three players back and a couple of weeks under the new coach and we should be OK from what I’ve seen today.”
