Not for the first time this season there was some significant bad injury news, ahead of the fixture versus Stevenage; although Michael Skubala did not allow that to detract from his delight at the Imp’s progression since the corresponding fixture at the Lamex Stadium.

That Injury News: MS on Ethan Hamilton (you can discuss this news here): “The scan didn’t go great, and what they found was not great…..so we’re not going to see him for the rest of the season” The earliest the player is likely to be seen is pre-season training.

MS recognised the brilliant form and contribution EH has made to the side this year; he has worked so hard and done so well. MS really feels for the player.

In other injury news, Conor McGrandles finished the game versus Shrewsbury before coming off the pitch with a niggle. Again, it could be something or nothing, but will require a scan. He will be touch and go for Stevenage. There were no other new injury concerns.

Improvement in the Team Since Facing Stevenage in Michael Skubala’s First Game: MS identified numerous areas in which the squad had seen pleasing development – fantastic mentality, stronger with and without the ball, defending really well and glimpses of a change in playing style since that first game in charge. MS attributed the upturn to having more squad depth, and players returning from injury.

“The group look and feels very different, which is nice, which is good”.

There have been loads of positives but the progression hasn’t surprised MS. There has been natural evolution. The team and the squad know MS better, the style of play he wants – they now understand how MS plays and how the coaching group as a whole go about things. Some of those elements were on view against Shrewsbury in midweek.

Even so, MS is not standing still. “I don’t think it ever ends. We are always looking to improve which is great. The players are doing that and are on board with that”

A Very Fruitful February: “I’ve said to the group well done, really pleased. I’ve said to them can we go again, can we be ruthless, can we improve, can we show mentality of a strong team, can we be confident with and without the ball; and I think you’ve seen that”

MS is seeing ongoing growth at all times which is really exciting notwithstanding MS has seen parts in all performances where the Imps could have been better.

“I’ve said to them, you’ll get bored of me because all I want to do is try and improve you and get you better, get us better”.
