Prior to the fixture at Wigan Athletic, Michael Skubala had an injury update on several players and it wasn’t good news.

Accrington Stanley Postponement: MS feels for the fans from a time and financial perspective whilst ceding the decision to postpone the game due to a frozen pitch was correct in the end. The clubs are supporting the fans for the re-arranged fixture.

With the game being off, the training plans and schedule had to be adjusted so the players ended up doing a 5K run to get the correct workload into them where applicable.

Development of Playing Style: MS is actively working on the aspects of knowing when to remain calm whilst looking to change up the pace of the attack.

“It’s more about changing the speed of the attack and when to do that. We’ve been working on that since I came in….to try and improve us on the ball really”.

One Month In: MS has been in post for almost a month, taking a moment to reflect on the difference to coaching at first team level versus U21 football. He recognised there is more responsibility to support the club with regard to ensuring it is heading in the right direction, which entails improving the players to keep developing the team.

“So far so good, and we just keep pushing”.

MS observed that there is good quality in L1 and he is seeing different styles of play from opponents, whereby it is a challenge that requires getting a grip with.

One Eye on the Transfer Window: Our hard-working recruitment team apply themselves week in, week out as an ongoing process to identify players for any gaps in the squad or areas that require support.

“It’s a really planned strategic approach which I think’s only good for Lincoln”.

MS definitely keeps an eye on the Imps player who are out on loan including some sessions when a number of those players are able to come in and train within the club itself.

Long-Term Injured Players: Reeco Hackett has recently started training on grass which whilst good to see, he still remains ‘a bit away’.

Ben House is further down the line than Reeco and sadly following a recurrence of an injury to Tyler Walker he has needed an operation which is highly likely to see him ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Wigan Athletic: The Latics of course are in a false position due to their points deduction. MS watched them play at York, noting they play some nice stuff with the ball. They are a side that introduce another variant to the L1 styles of play, utilising two number 9’s that drop into make up two number 10’s which resultingly creates an overload (in that area of the pitch). Wigan have caused lots of teams problems accordingly.

The Imps will undoubtedly have to play well to get something from the game, needing to exploit some identified Wigan weaknesses.

“It’s all to play for really”.
