He received an average rating of 5.111 following the 0-0 draw away at Accrington Stanley in November 2020. Some of the comments can be found below:

sedgleyimp: “ A bit of a mixed bag of a performance but generally okay. Three big decisions today and I think he got 2 out 3 bad which if you believe Meat Loaf isn’t a bad average

He called their red correctly straight away, which to me on first viewing looked harsh but on replays was clear.

The tackle by their keeper on Hopper was a good tackle as shown by the direction of the ball.

However he missed that one on Johnson in the box and booked him for diving when contact seemed pretty clear. The camera angles today were really close so I’m unsure whether the ref was looking for help from the linesman on it though.

So based on one wrong decision but overall okay, I’ll give him 5.5/10.”

GreenNeedle: “ 4. Don’t think it was a straight red, think it was a penalty. He got the keeper one right which brings him up from a 3.

Overall he stopped a game that had plenty of opportunity to be stopped far too often for the smallest of things, laughably told their keeper to “get on with it” when he didn’t have a ball to get on with and then ran half the length of the pitch to knock a ball out of play.

Made a very poor game even poorer.”

Scotimp: “ Can’t give more than 5. Gave a lot of soft free kicks, but most refs do now. One free-kick when an Accrington player went down with his arms above his head was ludicrous.

A harsh sending off if you are over 40, but it is a red in today’s non-contact game. I thought Johnson went down a bit easily, but it does look like a penalty on repeat viewing. He was having a right go at the ref at full time, hope he hasn’t got himself into any trouble for that.”

Robert Haines was the man in the middle for a total of 29 matches last season. In those matches, he showed 70 yellow cards and 4 red cards.

He was just a little card happy in the League Two match between Barrow and Leyton Orient (1-1), showing 10 yellow cards and 1 red card.

During the 2019/20 season, Haines was in charge of 32 matches, showing 84 yellow cards and 8 red cards.

He was most card happy in the League Two match between Bradford City and Forest Green Rovers, which finished 1-0 to the visitors. In this match, he showed 10 yellow cards and 1 red card.

Haines oversaw 38 matches during the 2018/19 season, showing a total of 108 yellow cards and 4 red cards.

He showed 6 cards on 3 occasions during the 2018/19 season: Doncaster Rovers 0-0 Portsmouth (5 yellow cards and 1 red card) and Fleetwood Town 2-1 Bradford City (5 yellow cards and 1 red card) in League One, and Mansfield Town 1-2 Exeter City (6 yellow cards) in League Two.
