Following last night’s 2-2 draw away at Shrewsbury Town in the First Round of the League Cup, in which the hosts won 4-2 on penalties, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Chesterimp said:

1. There is no substitute for actually being at a football match. Apart from: the lack of beer (other beverages are available) while the match is in play and the toilets and the cranky stewards and the 1 hour drive each way and the extortionate parking and the gobby preteens post penalty pitch invasion and …. But: there’s the prematch build-up, watching the warm-ups, feeling, seeing, hearing the whole thing. And then when the game starts you’re seeing stuff you can’t see on a single camera TV feed or even the full Sky multi-camera experience. Which is why I now know…..

2. Conor McGrandles is our most important player. He reads the game so well, finds space, moves to snuff out threats, wins the ball with strength and determination, then passes with vision and accuracy.

3. But Ted Bishop might be the key to a successful season. Play him as a ’10’, keep him fit, keep him focussed and we might be saying ‘Jorge who?’ come Christmas and partying come May.
