Selection headache for Cowley

Lincoln City begin their home campaign against Morecambe on Saturday and boss Danny Cowley admits he is facing a section dilemma, with the expected return of skipper Luke Waterfall to the ranks.

Waterfall, who captained the Imps to the National League crown last season, has missed the first two games of the campaign through a knee injury and his replacement Rob Dickie has stepped into the breach admirably, alongside Sean Raggett.

Dickie, a summer loan signing from Reading, has been given the nod ahead of Callum Howe for the games at Wycombe and Rotherham, and has performed well so far and Cowley has to decide whether to stick with the 21-year-old or bring Waterfall back into the fold.

‘He’s a really good defender and has a real ability to step in with the ball and make passes,’ said Cowley. ‘He’s got that ability to break the line with his passes.

‘Thinking about Saturday, there will be a few selection dilemmas. It’s a nice problem to have. You want that, boys putting their hands up, wanting some competition for places. They are never easy conversations to have when you have to leave people out, particularly after they have done well, but you always try to be open and honest.’

Winger Josh Ginnelly will be assessed after picking up an ankle knock at Wycombe last weekend, while Sam Habergham is back in training and is scheduled to play in a reserve game next week.
