Sheffield Wednesday are one of seven clubs in League One to have played in the Premier League and one of only four to have won the former Football League title. Formed in 1867, they are believed to be the second-oldest professional football club in England.
City first met The Wednesday in a competitive fixture in the Football Alliance in 1891-92, the season before City became founder members of the Football League Second Division with Wednesday elected directly to the First Division. Meetings between the clubs have been few and far between since then, with Wednesday having the overall advantage with nine wins to Lincoln’s two, with seven draws.
