Ahead of Saturday’s match away at Plymouth Argyle in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.
You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Plymouth Argyle Quiz, which can be found just below the three things. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!
Here’s what Chimpimp said:
1. Switch on and concentrate from the first minute. Whatever your preferred attacking options, the reason Lincoln didn’t pick up all three points against Swindon was not an inability to score goals. The early Swindon goal was one sloppy error after another. It was an indication that after a good return from a run of difficult matches, the same alert, up for it attitude was not quite there.
2. Re-establish a defensive base. Against some of the weaker teams, the Wigan’s and Swindon’s, the extra threat of four attack-minded players in Hopper, Scully, Rogers and Brennan, on the pitch, means goals are almost guaranteed. Confirmed by four goals from the last two games, despite difficult ground conditions and generally mediocre performances.
But the balance went wrong against Swindon and the defensive part of the performance was neglected.
The solution could be the reintroduction of Jones or Sanders but that would reduce the goal threat somewhat.
However, it may just be a better, more disciplined attitude rather than the “arrogant” defensively inattentive display of Tuesday night.
3. Recreate some of the positive stuff of the last two games. Rogers while seeming almost peripheral for periods, is still creating great opportunities within the 90 minutes. He is involved in nearly Lincoln’s best moves, doing things others can’t.
While we all sit in front of our screens, it’s also easy to miss the difficulty of playing the type of football Lincoln aspire to, in windy conditions on muddy or sparsely grassed pitches.
A sunny calm day on the south coast may well be the time to confirm why Lincoln have been around the top of the table all season.
