Samuel Barrott was one of several officials that were promoted to the Football League prior to the start of the 2020/21 season.

His Football League debut came in September 2020 when he refereed the EFL Trophy match between Morecambe and Rochdale (1-2).

Samuel Barrott has been the man in the middle for four matches involving Lincoln City:

07/11/20: Lincoln City 6-2 Forest Green Rovers (FA Cup) – 4 yellow cards
05/02/21: Gillingham 0-3 Lincoln City (League One) – 6 yellow cards
17/08/21: Lincoln City 0-1 Bolton Wanderers (League One) – 1 yellow card
14/09/21: Lincoln City 1-1 Rotherham United (League One) – 3 yellow cards

TOTALS: Matches: 4 Yellow Cards: 14 Red Cards: 0

He received an average rating of 5.375 following the 1-1 draw at home against Rotherham United last season. Some of the comments can be found below:

sedgleyimp: “I was a little frustrated by his whistle-happy performance. Not a difficult game to referee but that one instance of not playing advantage when we had a clear 2-on-1 down the left was especially annoying.

A generous 5 from me.”

PerthImp: “6 – I thought he wasn’t too bad initially, giving the game a chance by letting things go, etc – until that awful failure to allow the Imps to play on. Not only was it a shocking decision but it actually directly changed the flow of the game for a few minutes and gave Rotherham the initiative just when we were starting to build up a (limited) head of steam.”

hulloutpost: “At least he was consistent at not dishing the yellows. It possibly helped a physical Rotherham side more than us but it’s the same for both sides and we caught on ourselves quite a bit in the second half. The advantage mess up was annoying, although he did his best not to buy any of the diving and earache.

Overall, some plusses and minuses so probably a 6 is fair.”

Eweimps: “He didn’t fall for too many soft fouls and let an awful lot go which I don’t mind as long as he does it evenly, which he did, though that favoured the more “robust” side. Frustrating lack of advantage played as has been mentioned. Probably a yellow card short for persistent fouling.

5.5/10.”

Samuel Barrott: 2022/23 Stats:

30/06/22: Ipswich Town 1-1 Bolton Wanderers (League One) – 4 yellow cards
09/08/22: Norwich City 2-2 Birmingham City (EFL Cup) – 3 yellow cards
13/08/22: Accrington Stanley 4-4 Burton Albion (League One) – no cards

TOTALS: Matches: 3 Yellow Cards: 7 Red Cards: 0

Samuel Barrott was the man in the middle for 37 matches. In those matches, he showed 144 yellow cards and 3 red cards.

He was just a little card happy in the League One encounter between Oxford United and Portsmouth (3-2) when he showed 11 yellow cards and 1 red card, including a booking for former Imp Sean Raggett, and a red card for former Imps loanee Joe Morrell.

Barrott oversaw 32 matches during the 2020/21 season, showing 86 yellow cards and 4 red cards.

He showed 6 yellow cards on three occasions: Gillingham 0-3 Lincoln City and Bristol Rovers 0-0 AFC Wimbledon (including a booking for former Imp Alex Woodyard) in League One, and Newport County 0-1 Leyton Orient in League Two.
