It was very much about the FA Cup and all it entails for Mark Kennedy and the importance to Lincoln City, ahead of the intriguing trip to The Cotswolds to face off against Chippenham Town.

Mark Kennedy opened the press conference with his views on the all-important mental attitude required to avoid a potential giant killing. He acknowledged that it is not possible to speak for twenty plus players, but he has no concerns in that regard.

“One thing I really like about the group is how balanced we are as a collective unit, in terms of staff – wider staff and players”.

“I’m super confident the approach will be like any other game”.

MK stressed that Chippenham are in the same round of the competition as The Imps on merit and thereby will be afforded the utmost respect. MK has encountered teams from further down the pyramid in various competitions over the tears; as such he is well aware of the brilliant atmosphere the match will garner and how it will be the game of ‘their’ lives for some of the opponent players.

MK himself has strong memories of the FA Cup during his own childhood. He readily recalled vivid finals and huge cup upsets.

“They’re iconic games that we can all recognise but it’s because it was the FA Cup”.

The Imps own recent historic cup run is not lost on MK and it is something he is very much aware of. It does not bring added pressure; rather he embraces it.

“It’s a really proud moment for me on Saturday, to be a head coach taking a team”.

Beyond that, MK highlighted from discussions he has held, how cup runs and the FA Cup in particular is something the board take pride in and attach great importance to.

“The reason we’re here where we are in this beautiful building is because of the FA Cup so it’s something we’re all very passionate about”.
