Ahead of Sunday’s match at home against Milton Keynes Dons, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Keep up the intensity of play seen in the second half at Cheltenham and, to a lesser degree when we went down to 10 men at Crewe. In both these games, there was a desire to play the ball forward in the second forty-five minutes and we need to start in this manner on Sunday. The interchanging of players, speed of passing, and movement off the ball will be needed to unlock what has been a pretty solid opposing defence.

2. Cut out silly mistakes. Both goals we conceded in the away draw at Cheltenham probably could have been avoided if we were playing at the top of our game. Sometimes when teams are on the kind of run we are on, players can make those split second decisions that cost a goal. They need to be cut out. Go to safety first football, especially if you are defending a slim lead very late in the game. Play the percentages properly.

3. For the players over the next few days…Be sensible and think of the bigger picture. Our best chance of getting results on the forthcoming weeks is to have our best players available. We are living with the ongoing pandemic and our players have a responsibility to ensure, to the very best of their ability, that they are not putting themselves into a position that could jeopardise their opportunity to play Sunday and the following matches. I’d like to think that our players have been sensible and had their vaccinations. I’d like to think that none of our players will put themselves into social situations which may put themselves, and the rest of the squad into situations which may result in such transmissions. They have a responsibility to ensure they are available for selection and not unavailable due to them not taking the risks seriously enough. It’s not too much for us supporters to ask for I’d suggest.

(I do appreciate that you can still test positive even with all vaccinations and boosters etc…but I think the general point of not putting yourself into those situations where it is easily transmitted is relevant)
