This will only be the second time he has been the man in the middle for a match involving Lincoln City and the first time for a match involving Exeter City, having only been promoted to the Football League ahead of the current season.

His only match involving The Imps was the 2-1 defeat at home against Northampton Town in December, which saw him brandish 6 yellow cards and 1 red card, with Paudie O’Connor the recipient of the red card. Teddy Bishop was also shown a yellow card that evening. He received an average rating of 2.70 from our forum members following the 2-1 defeat, and you can see some of the comments below.

Binghamimp: “Very poor. Allowed them to time waste immediately after taking the lead and did nothing to try and stop it until finally showing a card in 89th minute. I can’t really comment on the red card however it took him a while to award the free kick and then some time before producing the red card. Should have sent at least one Northampton player off when in final minutes pulled back Roughan (mandatory caution and then immediately kicked the ball out of play (2nd caution) 3 out of 10.”

johnolbe: “4. Started ok but as the intensity of the game hotted up he lost his composure and seemed to lose control and resorted to waving cards as his only course of action.”

berksimps: “Poor during much of the game and poor compared to most of those we have had recently. 3.5.”

Matthew Corlett was the man in the middle for 19 matches during the 2022/23 season. In those matches, he showed 54 yellow cards (2.84) and 2 red cards. He was most card happy in the Conference encounter between Chesterfield and Notts County, showing 7 yellow cards and 1 red card.

So far this season he has refereed 22 matches, showing 97 yellow cards (4.41) and 6 red cards. He has shown 7 yellow cards and 1 red card on two occasions, one of which was our match versus Northampton Town (previously mentioned) and the other was the League Two encounter between Crawley Town and AFC Wimbledon (1-2), including a booking for former Imps defender Kellan Gordon.
