Lincoln City 1-1 Reading: Post-Match Reaction & Stats

|

Views from PerthImp following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home versus Reading in League One: “Terrific game for the neutrals but not for the coaches. Reading deserved to win it as they clearly had better basics, more physicality and more desire to win the ball and attack. We were exactly the opposite. Two or three players were fighting for the ball and played fairly decently, but we were so poor at the basics, lacked pressing, passing was awful and pressurised, no composure and no movement to open the game up and create something. Mandroiu fought hard and did a couple of pretty good passes in the last twenty minutes. Two things I hoped to see under Skuballa by now was better passing and better off-the-ball movement, but we seem to have gone back into our negative, defensive shell. I don’t hold out much hope against at Derby or Bolton, or even Northampton for that matter. On the positive side, we are unbeaten in five league games.”

Stevie_imp: “A valuable and very lucky point. Especially considering we didn’t have a shot on target, got a goal and Reading had 2 disallowed.”

TrickyImps!: “I think in the first 10-15 minutes there was a plan, but Reading soon nullified it.

Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say the opposition were really good.

The frustration for me is that we played for 75+ minutes without any discernible strategy.

Part of that is due to lack of options, I understand that.

But I was hoping Skubala would change something, and he never did. The subs didn’t have any impact.

Based on the performance, it’s very much a point gained. Reading played much better than their league position suggests.

At the same time, I feel with a bit more ambition and positivity, that could’ve been 3 points. Their defence was susceptible, but we didn’t threaten enough to make them feel shaky.

Onto Derby.”

andy_imp: “Poor display, good point.

I just don’t think a 5-2-3 is conducive to playing fluid football, and hopefully as time progresses we play a 4-3-3 which is more lucrative for ball rentention. Don’t want to seem too critical but as an attacking threat we are truly absymal.

I know there was an evening with Jez in the week which was well received, but interesting to know if it was discussed why we recruited a certain type of team to then want to play attacking football? These players aren’t technical and cannot put together attacking moves together. Thankfully at present the defence continues to stands firm and keeps us in the game.

The board are astute, they know they couldn’t bring Skubala in request a brand of football without the tools to deliver. There will be healthy changes in January I am certain of that. Do we have a decision with Jensen, great shot stopper can’t kick or get the game moving? Interesting times.”
