Views from Ruskingtony following the 1-1 draw at home against Morecambe in the EFL Trophy, which The Imps won 4-3 on penalties: “Wright certainly is becoming something of a penalty king. If he could improve on his all-round keeping he could be a very good keeper. But he is still quite below Rushworth’s standard. However, he deserves to keep his place in this competition even if we get to the final. The other positive is that we didn’t miss any of our penalties. There is a real bit of steel and backbone developing in this squad. There seems a great togetherness, it all bodes well going onwards this season.”
More views from our Match Thread:
Scotimp: “Wright certainly gives the players confidence going into a penalty shootout, it really is a strength of his. Five saves in two shootouts is a great record.”
Chimpimp: “Good result in the end. A bit low key but we were the better side.
Thought O’Connor was really good. Really commanding in the air.
Charles Vernam is an almost but not quite sort of performer in general play at the moment…or is gradually getting better (take your pick) but there is no doubt our set pieces delivery has taken a big step forward since he started taking them.
Best delivery since Grant.”
PerthImp: “I watched the game back on I-Follow and one of the things I noticed was Tashan Oakley-Booth. He’s quietly becoming a very good player. Always has had good close control but his use of the ball and especially his movement and positioning are getting much better. Seemed to be playing a more advanced position – almost a No10 – but at least three times he got into the box in excellent positions for a ball pulled back but the wide men either crossed it behind the defenders or took a shot. Would love to see the wide men be a bit more imaginative with their final balls into the box. Come on coaches – could have a great second half of the season if he’s used better.”
