Lincoln City 1-1 Milton Keynes Dons: Views & Stats

|

Views from sedgleyimp following the 1-1 draw at home against Milton Keynes Dons in League One: “Back home after quite a horrible drive in both directions tonight which was interspersed by a pretty p*** poor game of football. The M6 was a mare today which meant my normal 2 and a bit hour drive became a near four-hour one to get to the match. Coming back was just as bad with awful driving conditions, road closures and so many flashing lights from road-working vehicles I’ve actually got a headache now so this will be an initial brief view of tonight’s ‘entertainment’…

After a great start with Mandroiu’s bit of genius after 5 minutes we clearly decided that we couldn’t break the season’s mould and actually go and score another goal so we let MK play around with the ball for the majority of the rest of the game believing that their tactics of getting a 75% possession award when 95% of that is within 30 yards of their own goal wouldn’t get them anything. Well, that idea leaves you wide open to the kind of sucker punch late equaliser that we saw tonight where a looped hook from a leg can end up going in. Frustrating just doesn’t cover it.

I’ll give this all a bit more thought tomorrow but need a couple of paracetamol now.”

Prior to the match, we published a quiz about the last time the two sides met at Sincil Bank, which can be found HERE, or at the bottom of the page!

More views from our Match Thread:

Scotimp: “What on earth were Lincoln doing, allowing the side third from bottom to have the ball for most of the game? They were terrible in the first half, the worst side I have seen this season, yet we still couldn’t beat them. Even the worst sides will eventually create an opportunity if they have the ball for long enough. The game was played at walking pace and we did nothing to change it. Against a side notorious for running out of steam after an hour, that is ridiculous.”

StrangelyBrown: “Promising night which started so well and ended so disappointingly.

We were excellent in the first 25 mins, total control, looked like we would see a comfortable win. Diamond and Mandriou looking good on the wings, Teddy running the centre- defence absolutely rock solid and Rushworth with nothing to do at all.

For whatever reason, we started to concede possession which turned the game around into a nullfied battle in the middle and the last 20 mins were both quiet in terms of opportunity and quiet in terms of intensity. MK are a very high possession team- they had 50% possession against Ipswich last Saturday- they hold possession very well. So it wasn’t a surprise to us that they began to control possession.

Second half. they probably had a couple of half chances and we had 3 or 4 half chances but apart from a good reaction save from Rushworth, neither goalkeeper was really put to the test.

Frustrating to concede in the 89th minute to a set piece but the clowns who booed a team unbeaten at home all season and now unbeaten in 8 games- same clowns who booed the L2 winning team on the last game of the season 4 years ago because we were 3-0 down to Colchester at half time- just embarrassing.

Not sure what is going on with Diamond- he seems a very frustrated player at the moment and 2nd half particularly he just lost his head. There is a good player in there somewhere but probably not at Championship level.

Stats show 15 attempts on goal (MK and Imps) and 6 on target. Not a game I’ll remember but I remember there are dozens upon dozens of games I’ll not remember over the years. This is just another. For the record though- we haven’t lost a single game all season when we have scored first.

A point gained- definitely. Two points dropped- it feels like it this time.

Frustrated, disappointed but pragmatic.”
