Follwong the 0-0 draw at home against Wycombe Wanderers in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

1. Are even the most critical of supporters getting what is potentially being built under Mark Kennedy? It is still early days but I felt the reaction of supporters at the final whistle was quite interesting on Saturday. The game was interesting but at no real point exciting and I did expect some boos to ring out at the end as that always seems to happen if the team don’t win. Not one could be heard where I was and I’m pretty sure that was replicated around the ground. Some polite applause then happened as the players (and Sir Gareth) departed. This was in marked contrast to the reaction at the end of the Charlton game, a match which was in many ways similar to this one. Now there just might have been a number of reasons for the this. A cold day and supporters just wanting to get away coupled with the imminent kick off of the England game, but I’d like to think that just maybe even those ones amongst us who would have been unhappy with not getting 10 against Bournemouth all those years ago are realising that there is a real possibility of something good happening at our little club but also realising that it isn’t going to happen overnight.

2. Adam Jackson and Joe Walsh are not ready for the scrap heap yet. There have been comments over both players due to their repeated absences through injuries. Both are out of contract in the summer and there have been discussions that due to them being unavailable so often an extension to their deals should not be offered. I understand the argument being put forward in that regard, but you then look at their performances since we went to a back three and think we wouldn’t be anywhere near as secure at the back without them. Can anyone really identify adequate replacements for them at this time? Both are excellent defenders at our level and, in my humble opinion, deserve and should be given at least a further year’s contract extension.

3. In what has been a reasonable year temperature wise I had forgotten why in the past I felt the need to put on two pairs of socks to venture to Sincil Bank in the depths of winter. I think my toes are nearly thawed out now. Not a mistake to make again.
