Views from Joseph Lovett after yesterday’s 1-0 win against Shrewsbury Town in the Checkatrade Trophy Final: “That was a brilliant day out! Days do not get much better than that.
Personally thought it was a cracking match, perhaps not one for the neutral but a really fierce contest. It was a stunning performance against a very good Shrewsbury team who at times could move the ball around very well. However, we bossed the midfield and for most of the match limited them to long-range efforts (which they were shocking at).
To a man we were incredible. We got a bit fortunate with the Rhead incident. We know he likes to get involved with defenders but I am sure he didn’t intend to injure their keeper. Whitehouse was my man of the match. Not sure there was a blade of grass untouched by his boots. Bostwick and Woodyard were also immense. Allsopp pulled off a Worldy in the first half.
Thought we went into halftime the better team and deservedly in the lead. After that though, I spent the first 15-20 minutes of the 2nd half waiting for Shrewsbury to score. I’m not sure I’ve seen us under such a bombardment since we played against Arsenal. But boy did we defend like lions. Following that the game was pretty even as both teams started to tire.
The last 10 minutes plus stoppage time was a pure masterclass on how to see out a win. We forced them to play long balls which we defended with ease. We let them have no flow and no real time on the ball. Stoppage time, in particular, was incredible, they barely had a touch. The atmosphere for that last 5 was pure magic.
A day that will live long in the memory. Finally, good luck to Shrewsbury for the rest of the season.”

JT_LCFC: “It was a typical Lincoln away performance that we have been accustomed to with DC/NC. We got our noses in front and despite a couple of hairy moments we saw the game out comfortably and must admit felt we nullified Shrewsbury completely. I thought second half they may show their League 1 quality but despite a decent 45-60 minutes it threatened but never materialised but a testament to ourselves for that.
Fantastic day for everyone and memories to treasure. This team and management are unbelievable. All I would say is keep backing it to the halt why we have them.
