A makeshift Lincoln City side crashed to a 4-2 defeat at arch-rivals Grimsby Town in the semi-final of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup despite a brace from summer signing Gavin McCallum.

Of those to possibly start the league campaign at Rotherham in a week’s time, only McCallum, Clark Keltie and Jamie Clapham featured for the Imps, while Delroy Facey was also handed a start.

All six goals were scored in the opening 34 minutes of the match, with McCallum firing City into a 13th-minute lead only for Peter Bore to level nine minutes later.

Former City target Alan Connell’s goal put the Mariners 2-1 ahead, but a minute later McCallum headed Lincoln level with his second of the match.

But two goals in two minutes from Scott Garner and Mickey Cummins gave Town a two-goal advantage going into the break as City’s defence crumbled.

The second half was a tame affair compared to the first and while Lincoln gave a rare run-out to Chris Fagan in a bid to get back into the match, they failed to break down a resolute Grimsby side who will now go on to meet Scunthorpe in the final.
