The nephew of Blackburn’s Yakubu scores the only goal in a match that will not live long in the memories.

The fact that the team stopped overnight following a training session at Birmingham City did not seem to set them up for the encounter in South Wales.

The goal a scrambled effort in the 24th minute was the only thing to talk about in the first half.

With the Imps playing a catch you on the break tactic they could have opned the scoring on five minutes but Newport full back Paul Rodgers ended a pwerful run on goal from Francis Laurent.

One of the main weapons Newport use is the long throw of Tom Miller but for the first part of the first half the Imps defence stood firm.

The referee then intervened and despite a stonewall penalty shout when Laurent was felled in the County penalty area play was waved on.

Guess what Newport then went down the other end and scored. How many dubious decisions will City be on this season, it seems that former Football League clubs just don’t have a hope when the referee sees things differently.

The 127 brave Imps fauithful who made the trip to South Wales will probably confirm the referee got it wrong but it’s no his job on the line come Monday morning!

The loss sees Newport jump over the Imps in the table and all eyes are now looking to yet another trapdoor!
