Arguably League twos top footballing side, the Imps were at the watershed of the season. A win after outplaying the league leaders the week before, would set us on a run to the promotion promised land. On the other hand defeat, to Barnet conquerors of record breaking Stockport, would signal a tough anticlimax where even the playoffs might pass us by. Pass, now that`s a phrase the faithful fawn over. Yes the Imps stroked it around on the repaired Lincoln Green Theatre of dreams. Fear, fifty goals conceded, playoffs humbug. The nil nil score line was just a matter of time as the Co Op faithful at times lead the show.

Second half the Imps played towards their home end with the two stands baying them on. On fifty-one some intricate footwork inside the box saw Frecktanian with the ball at his feet. Shoot Frecko screamed the red and white hordes. Oh contraire said the maestro taking the ball left, leaving another stooge in his wake to turn and look up. Enough, voila, a curling flash of Brazilian Brilliance saw the ball bulge the side netting at the far post. Cue Sincil Bank mayhem, musketeers bathing him in praise and promotion express leaving the station. City dominated for long periods, impudent youth ensuring their experienced foes chased shadows. Barnet had their chances one a chip from Birchall, put in by Frecks Replacement Mayo, forcing Grand Master Mazza into a full stretch palm over.

he exiting Mendez and N`Guessan looked lively, given our desperation for a forward line. Given a bit more time together a combination of their individual cameos could see a prolific understanding develop. Play either along side Jamie, Stallard or even the flue ridden Weir-Daley and the goals we need will be there. SWD looked good in the last 30 today, replacing a young Dani who had run himself into the ground. He had but two half chances, as did Mendez whose cross goal header flew no more than a fag paper past the front of the right hand Stacey West post. Kerr was immense today again Frecks and Amoo all the better for a decent surface. Hughes confidence is coming back, his day will be Swindon. Brown and Moses would have snuffed out flamethrowers today. Green obviously has lunch with Eaden, as both show composure timing and pocess a footballing sixth sense. MC Mazza commanded his area, distributed with hands and made three very important saves. Our movement was not perfect, but the confidence this win brings will be the WD40 we need to run at full steam through the run in.

For those here the faith is restored. The ImpQuest continues.
