In their first season back in the Football League, The Imps didn’t do very well against Crawley Town, only picking up one point from the two games. The point came from the home game on 28th October, which finished 0-0. The away game, on 17th February, finished 3-1 to Crawley Town.

Thank you to Crawley Town supporter Paul for answering these questions!

How long have you supported Crawley Town?

Around twenty years and I have been a Season Ticket holder for eight years.

Where did you finish last season?

We finished in 14th place, five places higher and eight more points more than the previous season.

What are your views on Harry Kewell leaving for Notts County?

In all honesty, I’m not that fussed about him going, however, it must be said he brought in some very good players in Morais, Palmer and Francomb and we have a much stronger squad than last season but I was never convinced with some of the keep-ball tactics we employed passing it out from the back in a slow methodical way.

I believe if the club appoints the right manager they would take this team further than Harry Kewell could.

What are your hopes and expectations for this season?

I believe if we bring in the right Coach/Manager we should be looking to sneak into the playoff area or at least be in with a shout with 3 or 4 games to go which would be a fantastic achievement for our incoming manager whoever that may be.

One(s) to watch?

Glenn Morris our goalkeeper, he is a real solid player and won us far more points than we possibly deserved last season. Filipe Morais, currently co-caretaker manager, can pass a ball to feet 60 yards with no problems and has a very decent cross in his locker too and you know all about Ollie Palmer.

Who do you think will finish in the top seven?

In this order: Milton Keynes Dons, Exeter City, Lincoln City, Swindon Town, Carlisle United, Colchester United and Crawley Town (you have to believe, don’t you?).

Who do you think will finish in the bottom two?

Morecambe and Macclesfield, although I’m sure a fair few Crawley fans and Lincoln fans would like to see Notts County go down, I don’t see it myself.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Firstly thank you for Ollie Palmer, who has been a quality addition for us but also shows the strength in depth Lincoln have to let such a good player go. The Cowley brothers are a bit like Marmite, you either love them or hate them, but one thing is for sure is they get a team well organised and have passion in spades. I enjoy the Lincoln style and would love to see them go up this season.

What do you think the score will be?

If we can take anything from the game I will be over the moon so I will go with 1-1, of course, Ollie Palmer scoring as ex-players usually come back to haunt their old sides.

What will your likely default formation and style of play be for this season?

This is hard to say as we are now managerless I would like to see a return to a traditional 4-4-2 and not passing it out from the back at every opportunity.

Random fact about your Club?

BBC Breakfasts own Dan Walker is a fan.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

John Akinde. He was young when he was here and never really got the goals he should have but he is older and wiser and is a real quality player in this league (and we have a song about him which is quite funny).

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Crawley Town Supporter?

The proudest moment has to be winning the conference by a record number of points a close 2nd would have to be the 5th round FA Cup tie at Old Trafford in 2011 – it doesn’t seem that long ago. The most embarrassing moment of recent times was last year’s Sussex Senior cup game it was Dermot Drummy’s (RIP) last game in charge the players obviously knew it and played like a pub team needless to say the Crawley fans all went home very unhappy.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Our most underrated player for me is Joe McNerney on his day he is impossible to play against and he didn’t get much game time under HK so I would love to see him back on the pitch at the heart of our defence.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

Yes we have the Crawley Town Supporters alliance who play an active role within the club (they are our voice) they do great work throughout our community and all Season ticket holders receive free membership so it’s a win-win for everyone.

Which was your favourite match involving Crawley Town?

That’s a tough one the 0-1 defeat of Hull City in the fourth round of the FA Cup was certainly up there but my fav game is the 2-1 defeat of Wolves in 2014 we went 0-1 down and never dropped our heads and played Wolves off the park.

Which was your least favourite match involving Crawley Town?

This is easy. It has to be the 4-3 lose away to Peterborough we were on course for 3 points which would have kept us in league one but for some reason, Dean Saunders made some awful subs and we fell to pieces this game ultimately cost us our place in League One.
