Howe & Imps Want League 1

Those fearing that Rene Howe may be a shade of his former self following his move from Peterborough reserves, got a shock. Certainly after loans at Rochdale and Morecambe in the last couple of years, League 2 was not his preferred choice. Given half the chance any player would jump at the highest opportunity possible. The Beast Of The Imps however dispelled any questions over loyalty and overconfidence with his opening relaxed interviews at the club and Auntie`s Lincoln branch.

The set up at Lincoln is well above expectations including the League 1 facilities he has been used to. Now he wants to settle down and deliver as he has done at every club given the chance on the field. As Posh could not give him that he has been forced to go elsewhere for perhaps the last time prior to an eventual signing and permanent contract with the Imps. He certainly fired Rochdale to the playoffs over the second half of 2007/08 and made a difference to Sammy McIlroys Shrimpers last term, as you would expect from a 6 foot 14 stone physical presence. And perhaps Rene will be in League one soon and judging by his own comments it will be along with the Imps next season.

He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: ‘I’m happy coming here. I need to get to a club, settle down and get playing. The prospects have got to be good. With the confidence of the lads they should easily be going for promotion.’

Promotion talk from the man mountain we are calling the Beast of the Imps. If he bags 15-20 goals this season perhaps that Legend nickname might move from everyone`s lips to the back of plenty of shirts.

Vics Vision: Rene Howe will play in League 1 in a year and it will be in a red and white shirt.
