Match Thread: Lincoln City v Peterborough United

How long have you supported Peterborough United?

Since the 1980s.

What were and now are your hopes and expectations for the 2023/24 season?

At the start of the season, it felt like we were heading into some dark times. We’d got involved with some Canadian VCs and it seems they didn’t have the permissions to invest in a sports club.

Still, they’re gone now, but the money we paid them off with is likely to have cost more to borrow than they were taking.

We’re not out of the woods and we no longer own the ground, but it doesn’t feel like we’re threatened, anymore.

Under those circumstances, most of us would have been happy to make the end of the season.

Months later, we’re seeing arguably the best Posh team of all time and certainly the most entertaining. We’ve hit on a magic formula and it’s created a perfect balance.

It’s a great team, but not a strong squad. If we can keep everyone fit (and it really is everyone – there’s probably 1-2 of the bench good enough to keep the team firing) we will win the league.

What are your views on your manager?

I’m not a fan of the boomeranging, but he’s been incredible. Time after time he creates a brilliant team. I don’t think there’s been a better football league manager in the last 20 years for riding the crest of a wave (on the flip side, he does struggle to turn around a spiralling club).

Style of play and tactics – direct/passing/hybrid?

It’s all about speed, possession and passing. The last few months have been incredible to watch.

One(s) to watch now and in the future?

So many at the moment. Ronnie Edwards, of course, but Ephron Mason-Clark, Hector Kyprianou and Harrison Burrows are all developing brilliantly and Joel Randall has finally become the player we signed. But it’s Archie Collins that makes the team tick from midfield.

Which were your favourite and least favourite matches involving Peterborough United?

My most recent least favourite was our 3-0 win at Social Bank last season. I was sat in the home end and sitting still was fricking torture.

Which sides do you think will finish in the top six and bottom four?

I rarely pay attention to the table until March – but it’s probably safe to say all the big clubs in and around the top of the table now will still be there in May. I don’t think I’ve looked at the bottom half all year.

If we go up, Cambridge and Northampton can go down. If we don’t, I’d rather they stick around for the derbies.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

I live near Lincoln and watch them with my wife who is a fan. I even cheered for you against Northampton over Christmas (although there wasn’t a lot to cheer about).

If you could steal one Lincoln player for your team, who would it be and why?

Lasse Sorenson, no doubt. We’ve just lost our attacking right back to a loan recall, too…

What is your prediction for this match?

I don’t know. Joe Taylor looked like he’d won a raffle when he played for us – but he’s obviously come on a lot since then and I fancy him to have a say.

However, right now we’re as resilient as we are entertaining, so I’m going for a 2-1 to Posh – but not with a lot of conviction.
