Match Thread: Stevenage v Lincoln City

How long have you supported Stevenage?

I have been a supporter of Stevenage FC for 20 years! I first started going when the club were in the conference and fell in love with the club straight away! It’s terrific to see how far we’ve come in such a short space of time!

What were and now are your hopes and expectations for the 2023/24 season?

This season is our biggest yet! I think for all of us we have been saying get to 50 points and sustain as a League One team! However, the management team and this current group of players are winners and ultimately they’ll want to compete for promotion to the Championship, which is crazy to say as a Stevenage fan! After seeing how good we’ve been, I actually think we’ll compete for it. Too many good players and the manager is a genius!

What do you think of your manager?

Wow, what a man! Steve Evans in my opinion is the greatest manager we’ve ever had. When Steve took over we had 9 games left to save our EFL status. He kept us up, a year later got us promoted and then currently has us 5th place in League One. He has probably done one of the greatest jobs that a manager at this level has ever done. He’s a legend and we all hope he stays until the end of his contract!

Style of play and tactics – direct/passing/hybrid?

We’ve got many different formations that we line up with! Everyone knows us for lining up with a 3-5-2 formation. But recently Steve has lined us up in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation with a diamond! I think we’ll line up in the diamond considering our recent form!

One(s) to watch now and in the future?

Jamie Reid (Big Goal Reidy) is currently joint second top goalscorer in League One! Reidy has become a legend for us and is having the best season for us. He always scored big goals in big games! Jordan Roberts too! Jordan has the ability to play higher and carries the ball with such quality. Is also known to chip in with a few goals! Lastly, the big skipper Carl Piergianni! Keep an eye on corners, my god Pidge is unreal in the air!

Random fact about your Club?

We were denied promotion to the Football League in 1996 because our ground didn’t meet the regulations set to join.

Which were your favourite and least favourite matches involving Stevenage?

Tough question! There’s been so many!! I’ll go with beating Aston Villa in the FA Cup 2-1 along with beating Grimsby to gain promotion to League One! I’ve had so many great memories over many years supporting the team! There have been some great wins even this season, when we beat Derby 3-1, and Orient away 3-0! It’s been class! For the least favourite I’ll go with when we lost 7-1 to Luton a good few years ago! That day was so bad and realistically I think it was a day where we felt the current team we had weren’t good enough to compete in League Two!

Which sides do you think will finish in the top six and which do you think will finish in the bottom four?

Incredibly I actually think we will. It’s crazy to say after the journey we’ve had, but I think we’ll finish in the Play-Offs! Portsmouth look too good and will run away with it in my opinion. Oxford too look terrific, but I think this could be Bolton’s season to go up!

My top 6 are Portsmouth, Bolton, Oxford, Peterborough, Stevenage and Derby.

As for the bottom 4, I feel that Carlisle just hasn’t upgraded their team to compete in League One and unfortunately, because of that, I’ve got them going down! Along with Reading who are in big trouble, Cambridge who have fallen like a rock and also I’ve got Fleetwood falling too!

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

A cracking side who have had a tough start! It’s credit really, your in 9th after having a start where you’ve recently got a new manager! Originally I had Lincoln finishing top 10 in my League One prediction and I think you’ll be top 10! Also, Tyler Walker is a cracking goal scorer, when he returns for you you’ll be a very hard team to beat!

What is your prediction for this match?

Our home record is impressive under Steve Evans and more so with this current team we have! I think we’ll win as we’re on a cracking run at the moment, 2-0 to Boro!
