Ahead of tomorrow’s match away at Fleetwood Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Take the chances that are being created. I didn’t watch the Doncaster game due to arranging a short trip away on what should have been a free midweek but having caught up with the reports on the game it does seem that we made more than enough chances to win two or three games. What was missing was the onion bag bulging. Without that though any superb free-flowing passing movement really counts for nothing. That is the unfortunate reality of where we find ourselves. So many games we have played this season have been won or lost by an odd goal. We are dealing with very small margins. So we have to take those chances when they appear. Do that and wins will come.

2. Keep the concentration. Having viewed the brief highlights of Tuesday’s game only, the penalty was a catalogue of wrong decisions and a lack of concentration by quite a few players. Again this shows the small margins that we are dealing with and if concentrations are kept for the full period of a game, results will come be that in wins or at the very least not conceding very soft goals which loses us a point.

3. This one might not be a popular consideration, but I’m not sure that Chris Maguire is presently on the team wavelength. I don’t like highlighting individuals as a rule but as one of our senior players I feel he has of late failed to assist the team and is looking to be more of a show-boating individual. The clear example of this was last weekend in the Wycombe game where after a ball had been won in the middle of the park, he decided it would be a good idea to shoot from 70 yards rather than look up and see the two team-mates charging up the right wing in space. I feel that this example is just one of a recent trend he has developed, something also not assisted by his continued habit of falling to the ground looking for non-existent free kicks which merely results in the ball being lost and other players being caught out of position. This can be rectified in two ways. The preferred option is that he realises that this is a team game and gets back to being a valued member of that unit. If he can’t, then he will have to find himself some room in the stands for a few games. He can be a vital cog for us.
