Derby County 3-1 Lincoln City: Post-Match Reaction & Stats

|

Views from imps_joe following tonight’s 3-1 defeat away at Derby County in League One: “Derby deserve their win. We had a few poor moments and they capitalised completely.

The defence and midfield did a reasonable job, but the attack was so below par (even taking into account our injuries). Makama unfortunately struggled against an experienced defence and maybe should have been bought off earlier but Vale didn’t offer an awful lot more (pointless punting it long to him).

We had a good 5-10 minute period after half time but didn’t take the most of it. Derby certainly created the better chances.

We are a team really struggling in depth in midfield and forward areas. We don’t really have anyone on the bench that can make a positive change. Bringing on Adelukan just feels like a bit of a waste. Yes, he has a long throw but we create so little from them. Duffy at least can put in a decent ball.

The last two goals were completely avoidable. You cannot allow quick corners and Adelukan’s pass leading to their third was very poor (though it did look offside). From that point, it was game over and we barely threatened.

We desperately need January to add some more firepower to the attack, but do we have a budget? Without it, we’re a lower mid-table league 1 team. This season has been very frustrating with all the injuries because we *could* have been in the promotion mix in this poor league.”

Post-match views from the Match Thread:

Barney Imp: “Not the result that we might have perhaps hoped for but one that was perhaps expected, especially against a club that is spending fantasy money as if they were still in the top flight.

Given our lack of fit front players, the team is in a remarkable position in the league and I would hope that we could encourage the players we have for their efforts.

Echoing others – I hope that you all have a great Christmas and look forward to joining up with you all again. May the new year surpass your wildest hopes!”

PortMacImp: “We all know the limitations the team has in attack and when we have the opportunity to address this we will be far more competetive against teams like Derby.”

WellingtonImp: “Beaten by a more tactically acute side with players that are a step up from what we have. It happens. We didn’t embarrass ourselves, and were always in the game until Adelekan’s lack of ability opened us up and we found ourselves 1-3 down. We move on.”

  • Tim Taylor says:

Derby’s team last night had one player who cost a fee and that was over 10 years ago. Please explain where the “fantasy” money comes in. Derby are still working under a business plan agreed with the EFL for the rest of the season which has a cap on wages.

  • William Marriott says:

The 3rd goal was NOT offside. A below par Rams still had way too much for the Imps. But a good following, as usual from you. Good luck for the rest of the season.

    • It looked offside, to be fair. You do realise that the player who started up front for us (Makama) is only 19 and wouldn’t be anywhere near the starting XI or bench if we actually had Tyler Walker and Ben House fit? We have been seriously unlucky with our injuries in recent years, especially up front this season.
