Chippenham Town 1-0 Lincoln City: Views & Stats

|

Views from RedImp73 following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat away at Chippenham Town in the First Round of The FA Cup: “Unacceptable & indefensible.

We can blame players all we like and it’s clear that some either aren’t good enough (most of the midfield), aren’t putting a shift in (Garrick), or are being asked to play in positions and do things they aren’t comfortable with or good enough to do (wing backs).

But ultimately the buck stops with the manager. He is the one that picks the team, sets them up, and determines tactics and ways of playing. He is the one who decides on what players do in certain situations and dictates our patterns of play. Quite simply he is falling short and raises the question as to whether his limitations have been exposed. It’s OK playing this way against the likes of Ipswich & Sheff Weds, but to repeat the same boring, negative and turgid style against opposition where we should be looking to take the game to them shows a complete lack of flexibility. It seems we are incapable of finding a different way of playing against more modest opposition, which I’d actually most of our games.

Being hard to beat only gets you so far and the only thing that will win you games is scoring goals. With that in mind, a look at our last 8 games (excl PJ Trophy) is highly worrying. In the 7 league games and today’s debacle at Chippenham, we’ve managed to score just 4 goals and have mustered a total of19 shots on target. In 6 of the 8 games shots on target have been either 1 or 2, it was 3 against Sheff Wed and a massive 7 against Accrington, albeit most of those provided no test to the goalkeeper. Is this really the attacking aggressive, get-us-off-our-seats football we were promised???

Whatever team was put out, to muster just 2 shots on target today against a team three divisions and 78 places below us is just embarrassing.”

An opportunity for six players to show they should be in the league side – Bishop, Vernam, Draper, Robson, Sanders, and Sorensen. And they all instead showed why they are not regulars.”

imps_joe: “What a disaster.

Chippenham deserved that.

When the team came out a lot of us were nervous so the result isn’t a massive surprise. What is a surprise is the performance. It didn’t sound like we put them under and real pressure.

The squad depth is lacking. Our creativity and forward play is severely lacking. We always ask ourselves where are goals coming from. Feels like we are carrying far too many players.

interested to hear what MK has to say. Him and George have an awful lot of work to do.”

hulloutpost: ” always worried we would have the ball and not know what to do with it as in a reversal of the Burnley game. I did not expect that concern to be so pronounced. Throw in the loss of second round gate receipts and it is more than 41k as well.”
