Following the 0-0 draw away at Cheltenham Town in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

Prior to the match, we published a quiz about the last time the two sides met at Whaddon Road, which can be found HERE, and there is also another 15-question quiz at the bottom of this article! Have a go at both and share your results on Twitter if you’re on there!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said (article discussion link):

1. I thought the most telling part of Tuesday night’s match actually came before kick-off and the comments Mark Kennedy made concerning having to leave Luke Plange out of the squad because we have more loan players than we are allowed to feature in a matchday squad. We have seven and are of course only permitted to have five in that squad. You also have to consider that we have the lesser spotted Oakley-Boothe also at the club who, injuries to the other loan players aside, we won’t see in a matchday squad again. Kennedy was clearly frustrated by this scenario and I hope it gives an indication as to recruitment priorities in the summer. He clearly wants his own players. I think we as supporters would prefer our own players. I’m not suggesting that loan players give less to a team’s cause. You only have to look at the contribution of Rushworth in particular this season to show that they are committed, and we have had other examples both this season and in recent years. What you perhaps don’t get is a team fully gelled with the long term philosophy of the manager and the club. Now I don’t expect no loan players to be lining up for us come August as finances dictate that they will, but it won’t be in the numbers we currently have and we’ll see more of the Kennedy plan in force because of it.

2. Next season’s captain is already at the club. We all still hope that Regan Poole stays with us. I’ve seen reports that a contract is on the table for him but I think we are all being realistic in thinking that he will take the opportunity to make an upwards move come the summer. When (or if) that happens we will need someone to take over the mantle of a leader on the pitch. We have that player in Paudie O’Connor. A player who has won over every Imp with his no-nonsense committed performances week in and week out and one who is the natural captain in waiting come the summer.

3. I’m convinced that supporters watching remotely are easier bored than those in the stadium. I reverted to iFollow on Tuesday night and must admit that my mind was distracted from the game on occasions. If I was there I don’t think it would have wandered quite so much as it’s never a feeling that I have whilst being physically present as I have for the majority of games this season. I’m sure others may disagree with this point, but I do wonder if those constantly having to watch a game on a TV screen have a little less tolerance as a consequence. Perhaps a point for discussion somewhere.
