Sam Purkiss has been the man in the middle for three matches involving The Imps:

01/12/20: Lincoln City 2-1 Wigan Athletic (League One) – 2 yellow cards
26/01/21: Portsmouth 0-1 Lincoln City (League One) – 5 yellow cards and 1 red card
24/04/21: Lincoln City 1-2 Hull City (League One) – 5 yellow cards

TOTALS: Matches: 3 Yellow Cards: 12 Red Cards: 1

He received an average rating of 3.675 following the 2-1 defeat at home against Hull City last season. Some of the comments can be found below:

Chesterimp: “Easy to mark the referee low when we lose but he was awful, clear fouls missed, Grant’s the most obvious but others let go, non-fouls penalised (Edun’s shoulder charge). Allowed Hull to consistently steal yards at throw-ins. Incapable of pacing 10 yards accurately. Allowed Hull to waste the best part of 2 minutes in added time without compensating. Inconsistent with yellow cards. He did at least improve in the second half.

Got the penalty right (not hard) and had his kit on the right way round, so 2.”

Eweimps: “He let too much go for me and against a robust side that works against us but then on other occasions seemed to blow up for very little. Can’t complain about the pen and it could easily have been two. A big frustration for me was the time he wasted at the end setting up the free-kick and lecturing players…I was watching the clock and thought, well at least we’ll play six minutes but he blew up dead on time doh.

4/10.”

GreenNeedle: “3- After booking Honeyman, he bottled it when he held on to and pulled Grant just outside their box, not even giving a free-kick. Then when he went into our player in the centre he just gave him a stern talking to. He should have been giving a second yellow for both.

Got the second penalty for them right but the first one was wrong. Was constantly lecturing players and time-wasting without adding it on at the end.

I could go on and on but it’s all been said above.”

Sam Purkiss: 2021/22 Stats:

31/06/21: AFC Bournemouth 5-0 Milton Keynes Dons (EFL Cup) – 6 yellow cards

14/08/21: Burton Albion 2-1 Ipswich Town (League One) – 3 yellow cards

21/08/21: Stevenage 1-1 Port Vale (League Two) – 3 yellow cards
