Following the 3-0 defeat away at Burton Albion in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

Here’s what Chimpimp said:

1. It was suggested before the game that there was a bug of some kind running through the squad, although no mention of it was made after the game.

Certainly no opportunity to use this as an excuse was used. What is for sure is we were well off the pace and produced possibly the poorest performance of the season. We didn’t really learn from the post-match interviews if this was a factor but let’s hope it was.

2. Burton actually looked like a pretty good team and had Kamwa, Taylor, and Adeboyejo. Players who you wouldn’t expect to find in a bottom 4 team. Perhaps we made them look good on the day but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them creeping up the League.

3. In a perverse way the Burton game showed how well we have been organised and how difficult a side to beat, we have made ourselves in the last couple of months. The way Burton found space and created chances, especially in the first half was both alarming and surprising in equal measure. In theory, at least the next two games will be much harder and we could be ripped to shreds if we allow Bolton and Ipswich such an easy ride. Whether Burton was an explainable blip or a sign of things to come will be a matter of opinion. In a week’s time, we will have had a good idea of which it was.
