Ahead of tonight’s match at home against Bolton Wanderers in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said yesterday HERE, as well as getting involved with tonight’s Lincoln City v Bolton Wanderers Match Thread! Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Here’s what Impala said:

1. Set Pieces. City have rarely threatened from set-pieces in their early games, but could find this to be a weak point in the Bolton defence. In two games to date, eight chances have been created against the Trotters from set plays (with xG of just 0.6) and have resulted in two goals conceded. Hopefully, we’ll see the likes of Poole and Montsma (if selected) up there challenging from corners.

2. Be flexible in our play. City’s play was fairly pedestrian at times, and while there is a need to be patient and create the best chances, we looked better as the tempo lifted on Saturday. The introduction of Bishop and Adelakun certainly helped, but also flexibility in our shape. At times in the second half, Bridcutt dropped very deep allowing the full-backs to advance with great success. While Tayo Edun won many plaudits, Regan Poole slightly outpassed him, and managed three successful dribbles (only equaled by Teddy Bishop).

3. Playing it from the back. City racked up a huge 491 accurate passes on Saturday (half by Bridcutt/Jackson/Melbourne/Griffiths, mostly to each other!). Fleetwood stood off and allowed plenty of time to dwell on the ball before advancing, stats show that Bolton will play with more of a higher press and it is important that our back five take more care on the ball and always have a way out!

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
