Keith Alexander has been hailed as a role model and honoured in a ceemony in London on Thursday. The Black List celebratory evening held at Wembley decided to ensure thay Big Keith’s name will live on in the world of football.

He was postumously awarded a lifetime achievement award and alongside that the award for coaching and management will be named after the Big Man.

Keith’s son Matt picked up the achievement award on behalf of his late father and spoke of his pride at doing so: ‘I was very proud to pick up the lifetime achievement award.’

He went on to add: ‘I did not realise how inspirational he was and there was an unbelievable amount of people there from the footballing world who wanted to pay their respects.’

Talking to Paul Fletcher, who has a well respected blog on BBC Sport, he talked about a moment that many Imps fans would recognise as being Keith Alexander. After his first aneurysm in 2003 Keith was recovering in hospital and his family went to visit him. They were shocked to find out that KA had unplugged his heart monitor in order to plug in a TV to catch up on how Lincoln City were doing via Ceefax.

There are rumours that Keith will be honoured by the club he managed on two occasions before going on to Peterborough and then Macclesfield. It is likely to be another lasting reminder of the good old days under one of the best managers the Imps have ever had.

Of the Black List ceremony itself PFA deputy chief executive Bobby Barnes said: ‘It serves to recognise the black people who are making a significant contribution in football and show young black people positive role models.’

Talking of Alexander he went on to say ‘He was a pioneer, not only was he one of the first black managers but he was a real gentleman.’

I think we would all agree with that last statement. RIP Keith.
