Following tonight’s 1-0 win away at Barnsley in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

Here’s what Chesterimp said:

1. ‘Minerals’ was one of Danny Cowley’s favourite words and we all recognised the qualities that word encapsulated. Danny might want a word with Mark Kennedy as he’s currently mining a rich seam. Tonight was the mother lode but it’s been evident for several weeks, notably in the win at Ipswich. The commitment of this team is extraordinary.

2. 3-4-3, 5-2-3, 4-2-4. All, and more, were on the pitch tonight. MK seemed to suggest going to a back 3 was an expedient and we’ve all grumbled that it has produced negative football, but it’s producing results and tonight showed as the players become more comfortable with it, there’s more fluidity emerging, in and out of possession and depending on the match situation. It’s also showing the truism that it’s not possession but what you do with it that counts.

3. Danny Mandroiu was touted as ‘The Marquee Signing’ but because of his injuries and coming from a different country, we’ve had to be very patient to see if he can live up to that billing. Be patient not longer, fellow Imps: we have player. In many respects it was a frustrating night for Danny, Makepeace kept referring to his runs which weren’t being picked up. Then one was, match won. His finishing is a thing of beauty, 2 league goals, each caressed into a corner. He’s learning other aspects of the game in this league but if he keeps fit and keeps focussed, the question will be how long can we enjoy seeing him in an Imps shirt.
