1900-01 The Lincolnshire Season

In September 1900 the Imps employed the services of ex Notts County secretary manager David Calderhead. Despite losing 9 of his first 15 games it would be the start of a golden era for the Imps until Chelsea pinched him. The club colours changed back from the green & white stripes to the famous red and white, this time with black shorts. One defeat between January and the end of the season despite us only scoring four away all season, saw us go into the following season with optimism.

The Dawn of a new century was a golden era for Lincolnshire football too. The visit of Grimsby on boxing day saw a record 9,000 and some cheeky ‘young uns` pay £227. Grimsby were promoted as the champions with The Imps eighth on 33 points and Trinity but 3 points behind in thirteenth. Closer still the epic three match FA cup tie between the 7th and 12th November 1900. After a 0-0 and 1-1 draw where Webb our defensive powerhouse shone, Hartley scored twice for the Imps to come out 3-1 winners. Barnsley beat us 1-0 away in the next round as did Grimsby in the County Cup final.
