The last time The Imps played today’s opponents Portsmouth at Fratton Park was on Tuesday 26th January 2021. The Imps won 1-0 that night. Jack Whatmough was given a straight red card in the 29th minute, and Morgan Rogers secured all three points with his goal in the 79th minute.

Ahead of today’s match, we have done a Q&A with a Portsmouth supporter, so thank you to Adam for answering our questions!

How long have you supported Portsmouth?

Since I was about 10 so 40 years, sure has been a rollercoaster, be boring otherwise, wouldn’t it?

Where did you finish last season?

8th.

What do you think of your manager?

Danny Cowley will ultimately like any football manager be judged by results and achievements. At present, it’s a mixed bag, will need to deliver next season and get out of League One finally. Let’s hope he succeeds.

What were/are your hopes and expectations for the 2021/22 season?

Hopes were play-offs. Expectations pre-season were one of finishing around 7/8th but with developing the squad for a real push for promotion season after.

One(s) to watch?

After a slow start to his loan deal from Leicester City, George Hirst looked sharp grabbing a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win against Rotherham on Tuesday, that’s 9 league goals this season now.

Which teams do you think will finish in the top six in League One?

Wigan, Rotherham, MK Dons, Plymouth, Sheff Wed, and Sunderland.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Morecambe, Wimbledon, Doncaster, and Crewe.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Seem to be a well-run club with Michael Appleton at the helm and doing enough to stay up.

On your day, a match for anyone with good home wins against Oxford and Sheff Wed this year, but then losing to likes of Doncaster and Gillingham must be frustrating.

Will be a tough as ever league next season so you will inevitably have to improve the squad to ensure looking upwards and consolidating rather than down.

What do you think the score will be?

After losing twice in January at Fratton Park, we are now unbeaten in the last 7 matches at home. I predict 2-1 win – Hirst and Raggett for Pompey, Marquis for Lincoln.

Random fact about your Club?

Pompey’s first colours were salmon pink shirts, and the club were known as the Shrimps.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Right-back Regan Poole as expect Pompey will be looking for a replacement with Mahlon Romeo loan deal from Millwall expiring.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Portsmouth supporter?

Proudest – Would have to go for the last day of the season drama to clinch the League 2 title in 2017 with a 6-1 win against Cheltenham under the ownership of the Pompey Supporters’ Trust.

Embarrassing – Try not to dwell on them and best to move on and focus on next match!

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Pompey have been consistent in being inconsistent this season so difficult to say. As still developing and currently out on loan with Bradford City, goalkeeper Alex Bass perhaps.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

Yes, the PST were, of course, former owners.

The PST is a democratic, not-for-profit organisation of supporters, committed to strengthening the voice for supporters in the decision-making process at the club, and strengthening the links between the club and the community it serves.

Their Mission is “to be the voice for all Pompey fans, working to enhance the social, cultural and economic value of the Club to its communities”

Which was your favourite match involving Portsmouth?

Perhaps an obvious one would be Pompey’s FA Cup 2008 win, but for me, the 1992 FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool – despite the late Reds equaliser to send it to a replay – which we lost on penalties.

Which was your least favourite match involving Portsmouth?

This season, Pompey’s 4-0 home defeat to Ipswich Town.

Do you have a Former Players Association at Portsmouth?

Yes, there is, believe it’s set to link up with the Pompey History Society which will further strengthen the work all do with celebrating Pompey’s rich history and those who played their part in our fine football club.

The Cowley’s. Are they the right people to take you forward?

Hope so. Let you know at the end of next season!
