The last time The Imps hosted today’s opponents Morecambe was on Tuesday 8th February 2022, in front of a crowd of 7,571. The Imps won 2-1 that night, thanks to goals scored by Morgan Whittaker (10′) and Cohen Bramall (19′), with Diagouraga pulling one back for the visitors in the 56th minute.

Ahead of today’s match, we have done a Q&A with a Morecambe supporter, so thank you to Dom for answering our questions!

You can get involved with today’s Lincoln City v Morecambe Match Thread, as well as get involved with our pre-match threads: You can post your score predictions, discuss the starting XI, and predict the attendance!

How long have you supported Morecambe?

I’ve supported Morecambe since the 07/08 season, which was the season we were promoted from the Conference into League Two. What a journey it’s been since then!

Where did you finish last season?

Last season we finished 19th, after a late rescue from Derek Adams. Hopefully, we can equal that, or maybe do even better this term.

What do you think of your manager?

I think Derek Adams is undeniably a Morecambe FC legend. He staved off relegation in his first season with us in League Two, then got us promoted the following year. Yes, he left to try something different at Bradford City, but that didn’t work out for him. He returned to keep us up last season, and I anticipate the same again this campaign. Morecambe FC’s greatest-ever manager? He’s definitely in the conversation, especially if we’re playing in League One again next season.

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2022/23 season?

I hope we’ll improve on last season’s finish and survive comfortably. However, I expect, as ever, that we won’t make it easy for ourselves. We never do.

One(s) to watch?

Jensen Weir is definitely one-to-watch, he’s excellent at running in behind and has a knack for showing up at the right place at the right time. Caleb Watts is another player I admire; he offers a little bit of class in the final third. And Adam Mayor, an academy graduate who has hit the ground running for the first-team. All 3 would feature in a best Morecambe FC XI for this season.

Which teams do you think will finish in the top six in League One?

Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Peterborough United, Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom four in League One?

Forest Green, Burton Albion, Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham Town.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Lincoln City is a great club with a passionate fanbase. Always been fond of them since watching them play in the League Two play-offs in the mid-2000s. Happy to see them in League One and doing well.

What do you think the score will be?

I think it’ll be a close game, but 2-1 to Morecambe.

Random fact about your Club?

We’ve never been relegated in our 102-year history.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

I would have to say Jack Diamond, because he’s your top scorer and we need all the goals we can get!

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Morecambe supporter?

My proudest moments would have to be the two promotion seasons I’ve seen, and the 0-0 draw away at Coventry in 2018. Most embarrassing was the 6-0 drubbing away at Dagenham & Redbridge in the 09/10 season Play-Off Semi-Final, which was live on Sky Sports.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Our most underrated player is probably Liam Gibson, what a defender. And I’m not kidding, he is really, really good at defending. He’s quite highly rated amongst Morecambe fans, but there could be a case for him being one of the best in League One.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

We do have a supporters trust, and they are an essential link between the club and the supporters. They run several initiatives throughout the year and ensure the club always has it’s supporters at it’s heart.

Which was your favourite match involving Morecambe?

My favourite match involving Morecambe was the 4-3 defeat of Crewe Alexandra at Christie Park in the 2009/10 season. A game that is remembered fondly in the minds of many Morecambe supporters from that era. Ex-Crewe Alexandra player & manager Dave Artell scored the winner.

Which was your least favourite match involving Morecambe?

The 6-0 at Dagenham & Redbridge is up there. We lost away at Aldershot Town in one season under Jim Bentley and I remember us being absolutely awful that day. I can’t even remember the result it was that bad!

Do you have a Former Players Association at Morecambe?

We have just launched our Former Players Association last weekend actually. It was celebrated by many familiar faces of Morecambe teams gone by at the Mazuma stadium on Saturday.

What is the best thing about Morecambe?

The best thing about Morecambe is definitely the promenade, the views across The Bay are spectacular and shouldn’t ever be taken for granted by anyone who gets the chance to live there. Absolutely stunning.

When Worcester Warriors folded, did you have concerns over your clubs future due to the joint ownership? Any further developments with the possibility of Tyson Fury buying the club?

I think with Worcester Warriors being an entirely separate entity to Morecambe FC there was always a level of security guaranteed to us. However, it is tremendously sad seeing any sporting institution end up like the Warriors. I feel sorry for the fans more than anything, hopefully they can make it back to the top soon.

I’m not sure about the Tyson Fury rumours, but surely there’s some substance to it, otherwise, it would be a truly bizarre publicity stunt. A local man owning his local club does sound like a match made in heaven though. We’ll see.

Cole Stockton sometimes looks a pub team striker then he scores a worldie. What level is he capable of playing and will be in his way in January?

The case of Cole Stockton is a curious one. Maybe he knew he wouldn’t be able to perform like he did throughout 2021-2022 again and wanted to force the move when he had the chance. It didn’t work out for him, and I can’t see his last months in a Morecambe FC shirt being particularly glamorous either. He’s alienated a large section of the fanbase with the debacle over wanting the join Fleetwood Town. Is he League One level? Not if he can’t prove it again this season. Another one to wait and see.
