How Long Have You Supported Cheltenham Town?

About 22 years properly, that I can remember! (34 now).

Last Season’s League Finish?

21st.

What Do You Think Of Your Manager?

He’ll always be a hero for getting us back into the League at the first attempt with over 100 points and beating our now increasingly bitter, cash rich rivals Forest Green to the title! (They always used to be our other, local, friendly club until Dale Vince took over. The guy has no class and very little respect). Disappointing last and this season means a few have started to get on Gary’s back a bit but the majority are still behind him and think he’s done an ok job with the budget he’s got, I think. We can see he’s building a good side and has the building blocks in place. Next season will be the true test as our League history has generally been movement up or down at least every 3 seasons.

Hopes/Expectations This Season?

We were hopeful that we would get into the top 7 this season but we’ve been too inconsistent and wasteful. Our last two wins have been 4-1 and 5-1, but a month apart and with some dross in between, which kind of says all you need to know. We’ve dominated quite a lot of games but been unable to get the ball in the net. Some long term injuries to a few key players early on also set us back, so 13-16 would be welcome given our recent run. We seem to be building for next season as the chairman just said Gary Johnson deliberately didn’t use his budget in January so we have more in the summer.

One(s) To Watch?

Carl Winchester will be our player of the season. He can play pretty much anywhere, has recently been given the armband and has been by far the most consistent player. Other than that, you can’t ignore Mo Eisa, who’s bagged 17 so far in his first professional season and his first hat-trick today. He’s still raw but has so much potential.

Top Seven Predictions?

Luton to win it, unfortunately, and the other current top 5. You guys and Coventry to replace Exeter and Mansfield. Steve Evans and Paul Raynor are due a touchline ban or 6 which will scupper them. Also, they have been average against us in both games, don’t know how they’re up there.

Bottom Two Predictions?

Barnet look to be a given, but who knows…

I’d like FGR to join them but have a feeling Morecambe’s time is finally here after many seasons scraping by after a good start to the season, which they didn’t get this time.

Thoughts on Lincoln City?

Well, purely based on the National League season, I hope you do well as some of your fans stayed behind on the last day to applaud our team as we lifted the trophy, despite defeat, which was classy. You might know we have a bit of an ever-growing grudge with Grimsby so it’s always nice to side with their local rivals to annoy them. You obviously have THE young management team to watch at the moment so good luck to you on doing a Bristol Rovers and getting back to back promotions. (Also you didn’t quite reach our NL points total last season which pleased a pedant like me lol).

Score Prediction?

We just scored 5 today, so we won’t score for a few weeks now…painfully, 2-0 to Lincoln, but I obviously hope I’m wrong.

Random Fact About Your Club?

A rather pertinent one – we have scored in the last 12 League away games, equalling the club record so, if we score on Tuesday…well, it’s a new record.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Cheltenham Town Supporter?

This is tough. We have had some very high times and some very low times. Personally, in my time, the proudest would be beating Grimsby in the 2006 play-off final and seeing them crying on the coaches on the motorway on the way back from Cardiff.

The most embarrassing. Pick a random moment from any of Martin Allen’s or Paul Buckle’s tenures. Utter clowns that both nearly ruined the club. Actually, probably when Allen got put on gardening leave after a story emerged about an incident outside a nightclub.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

The Robins Trust play a huge part. We have had a fan elected RT member on the board for a few years now thanks to an extremely generous donation in the will of a fan that passed a few years ago, Bryan Jacob. The chairman always said that once a level of investment was reached the RT could have a seat, and it allowed them to do so. The RT directors have had big roles that have pushed the club forward, including the idea of our kickstarter scoreboard campaign last year which raised something like £60k and has brought in extra revenue.

Which was your favourite match involving Cheltenham Town?

There have been many. Most fans would probably say beating tital rivals Rushden & Diamonds with two late, late goals which all but won the Conference in April ’99 but, for pure drama, Burton 5-6 Cheltenham in 2010. Utter chaos. 2-0 down at HT, 4-2 down in the 83rd, 4-3 84, 5-3 85, 5-4 87, 5-5 90 and 5-6 with a 25 yard volley in the 93rd for a 9 minute hat trick for the captain.

Which was your least favourite match involving Cheltenham Town?

Been a lot of these as well but probably losing at home to Shrewsbury which not only saw us relegated to the National League 3 years ago, but also saw them confirm automatic promotion at the same time, so they were all having a party as we flooded the terraces with tears*

*slightly over-dramatic
