It has been a solid start to the 2024/25 campaign for Lincoln. The Imps have lost just six of their opening 21 games in League One. They sit in sixth place following those 21 matches, so they are in the mix for the promotion places.

Here is a look at what Lincoln will be aiming for in the second half of the season.

Play-off Spot Will Be the Primary Goal

Just like in the top-flight of English football, where Liverpool are the warm favourites at 8/15 in the Premier League winner odds, Birmingham are odds-on to land the League One title. It will take a big effort from any team to finish ahead of the Midlands club at the end of the campaign.

Unlike three seasons ago, the Imps are a long way clear of relegation in League One. As is the case in the Premier League relegations odds, with Southampton and Ipswich as short as 1/16 and 1/3, respectively, for the drop, Burton and Shrewsbury are both odds-on for relegation from League One.

Lincoln will be looking to cement a top six at the end of the season, which will secure at least a play-off position. They face strong competition from several clubs for a top six sport, as the league is congested behind them. It means Michael Skubala’s side will need to keep up their form in 2025.

Home Crowds Should Give Lincoln A Boost

The attendance at the LNER Stadium has been very strong this season. Should Lincoln remain in the hunt for promotion, that may continue to rise. The Imps have five home games in all competitions in January.

Lincoln’s highest home attendance so far this season came in a defeat to Birmingham City. 10,026 were in attendance to see the Imps lose 3-1 to the high-flyers. With home games still to come against Wrexham, Huddersfield and, the attendance may rise to over 10,000 once again before the end of the season.

The Imps have been much better at home than they have on the road in the latest campaign. Five of their eight victories after 21 games have come at the LNER Stadium. Two of those wins were over fellow promotion rivals Reading and Stockport.

Lincoln Still Involved in Cup Competitions

Although the league will be the priority, Skubala will be taking Lincoln’s participation in their remaining cup competitions very seriously. They have reached the last 16 of the EFL Trophy, so they are not far away from an appearance at Wembley.

The Imps finished second in their EFL Trophy group behind Chesterfield. They then defeated Morecambe away from home in the opening knockout game of the competition. Their reward for that victory in a last 16 tie at home to Bolton.

Lincoln have also made it safely through to the third round of the FA Cup following two victories. They got the better of Chesham United and Crawley in the first and second rounds respectively. Skubala’s side will take on League One favourites Birmingham City at St Andrew’s in the third round.

There is a lot to look forward to in the second half of the season for Lincoln fans, and hopefully, it will end with celebrations at the end of the campaign.
