Views from Chesterimp following last night’s 1-0 defeat at home to League Two side Chesterfield in the EFL Trophy: “We’ve become a soft touch in cup competitions, I’ll stand to be corrected but that’s now 4 successive defeats v L2 sides?

Frustrating night to say the least, looked much the better side 1st half but once a poor piece of defending allowed Chesterfield to score they had something to defend and we never really looked enough of a threat.

Moylan looked good, Duffy lively at times, Montsma improving though he faded. Should he have had a penalty? Yes for me. We lost shape after Erhahon went off. Draper some good touches. The rest? Meh, work to do.”

The nonchalance the lack of intensity and the total lack of invention against, let’s face it, Chesterfield reserves, was a disgrace. If we are just treating them as a run out for fringe players we should just say so instead of all the bullshit about going out to win the games.

I have already said I am worried about the quality of our back-up players who again looked distinctly average tonight But then both Bayliss and O’Connor were very poor tonight. I don’t know if O’Connor fancies himself to be a new Bobby Moore but his aimless long-range punts to nobody are a total waste of time.

Ref was poor but let’s not blame him for this we have only ourselves to blame.

But no doubt we will go and win at Peterborough a week on Saturday and all this will be forgotten.

But if selected in place of O’Connor, Hamer needs to play a hell of a lot better than he did tonight.”

Merthyr Imp: “Moylan man of the match for me.

We were the only team in it for most of the first half but despite numerous crosses into the box from either side, we couldn’t make anything of them. In the second half we were nowhere near as good, maybe due to so many substitutions.

Hamer was disappointing for the goal, then nobody else seemed to be near enough to do anything to prevent them from scoring an easy goal. Montsma was rather badly beaten on one occasion but otherwise did well, and it was good to see him get a full game in. Ring was also beaten once but otherwise did OK. Disappointing for me were Bayliss, Street and Cadamarteri.”

Why did City pay over 100 grand for Rob Street as a Striker when he’s only scored a couple of goals in two or three seasons, or am I missing something ?
