‘That was a great result, really enjoyed it. Despite the absolutely rubbish ref. Never seen anything like it. Missed at least 2 clear hand balls. They were a better side technically, stringing passes together and keeping possession for long periods. However we wanted it more and it showed.’

‘Great win, unexpected for me to be honest. Felt FGR were quite poor giving all that cash spent, Macc looked far more threatening. Only disappointment was the attendance.’

‘FGR were pretty poor, all well and good passing it around the back but they created pretty much nothing. Thought we deserved the victory and just hope we can keep up this sort of form for the long haul.’

‘Another solid performance against a fancied team. Their goal was a bit of a fluke and that was their only chance. Fairhurst took his chanced superbly and Newton’s persistence and intelligence to set up our second goal was excellent.

I don’t care that we’re not ‘pretty’. FGR played some nice stuff but were completely ineffective. This team has the potential to be a traditional, battling, hard-to-beat LCFC outfit and I’m more than happy to see that.

Well done to the lads!’

‘Just about deserved I think.

Should have taken the lead before the FGR goal. Tomlinson’s nipped the ball away from a defender just inside our half, got to the byline, come back inside to the corner of the 6 yard box and, with everyone waiting for him to shoot, he’s squared to Fairhurst who had no idea he was about to do so!

FGR’s goal was a bit of a fluke. A deep left wing cross curled in by a right footer. Not the greatest cross and landed around the 18 yard box I think. It’s either glanced off Brown or MBH’s head and nestled in the corner. Farman couldn’t have done anything there, contrary to what Jules said in his updates.

Deserved equaliser from Fairhurst, left footed into the bottom corner.

Absolute peach from the winner. Newton wins the ball right on the touchline and worked it left to right very quickly. Newton to Rowe, to Nolan, to Fairhurst and he’s taken a touch before putting it into the roof of the net and then we saw out the final 10 minutes or whatever it was very comfortably.

FGR quite clearly have a very technically gifted side but until they pass the ball with a bit more intent they’ll not be as good as they should be. I can’t think of a shot Farman’s saved. In fact, I can’t think of a shot at the minute.

Really strong wind for the 90 minutes (and that was just me!), and we went against the wind first half. Struggled with it in the second half because most things went out of play but it did worry whoever was partnering Pilkington at CB. Absolutely terrible game and gave away tonnes of throw-ins/corners.

Was expecting the attendance to be higher, but I thought there were more in the Co-op today than Tuesday.’

‘Yes we were poor at passing the ball the around in pretty triangles and using incisive one touch football to carve open their defence at will.

However, I think we were well organised and pressed them back so that often they were forced into just sending long balls forward which were easy for us to mop up. I thought were hard to break down and in the end I thought were more dangerous in their half than they were in ours.

I think had we tried to match them at football the outcome would probably have been different.

Results. End of.’
