Following today’s 4-0 defeat at home against Sunderland in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Conor McGrandles is more appreciated when he isn’t there. Often in matches, Conor will get a rating of 6 or 7 because he is that kind of player that all successful teams need. One who does the simple things well and often. The grafter of the team who would have covered many of those gaps that Sunderland exposed today.

2. You have to be clinical against the better teams. In all honesty, we had two guilt-edged chances before they scored their opener and if they, or at least one, had been taken that would have been an altogether different game today. It will be a game that Johnson will probably want to forget quickly, but it is one which he needs to think over and learn from if he is to achieve what his potential suggests he can.

3. Tayo Edun can play at left-back but he needs help there. He was selected today to try and combat the speed of Diamond but was left exposed all too often on his own and Sunderland quickly identified that they could profit down his flank. If Tayo is to play there he really needs a more defensive-minded player ahead of him on that wing to give him support.
