Following Saturday’s 2-1 win away at AFC Wimbledon in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v AFC Wimbledon Quiz, which can be found just below the first three things. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Here’s what syimp said:

1. We have a Plan B. Ollie was climbing all over TJ in the first half, at the back post and deserved his equaliser for perseverance. Appleton responded, by switching Lewis to right-back and nullifying the threat.

2. We went into combat mode in the second half, which was attritional for long periods, but never lost sight of our core principles of moving the ball around at pace and trying to get around the back, which we managed on several occasions, despite some heroic defending from the Wombles.

3. We have the Indian sign over the teams in the lower reaches of the table and have turned into experts at playing away, after, to be generous, indifferent performances away from home last season. What’s the secret? Playing in empty grounds, so no hostile fans may be the answer. This might also be the reason why we are less convincing at home.

Where did the newly formed AFC Wimbledon hold their initial player trials in June 2002?

And here’s what PWould said:

1. Can we play away every week? What an away record we have. In the league winning 7 out of 10 and losing only 1. Then remember Bradford and Crewe in the League Cup and Mansfield and Shrewsbury in the Papa John and that makes 11 games won away from the Bank. Unbelievable really. Maybe we need to enjoy it while it lasts as we have all the top teams and so-called big boys away in the second half of the season. They will be the acid tests and tell us whether this will be a good or a great season.

2. We have so many game-changers in the team from Brennan, Scully, Jorge through to H. Can you imagine trying to contain that level of pace and trickery. We are so well-coached that we can adapt and play in different ways. Although the Don’s played well in the first half and at times bullied us, particularly in the air, a few tweaks put us firmly back on track. Other teams seem to struggle with our energy and press and for many games, we look the stronger team as the game progresses.

3. There is no deadwood in this team. From the best keeper, I can remember, a solid back 4, through to work rate and skill in abundance in midfield. Finally, a forward line to die for. Ally the flare all round him to Hopps work rate and you have a winning formula. Not to mention, good options to come off the bench if needed. We do not have an obvious weak link. If I was being picky, I could probably come up with a couple of areas for improvement we lack a bit of height at the back. Let’s see how we do against the Gills for example. However yesterday Bradford and the Cobblers match, have shown we can prosper against route 1 teams. Given the skill and flare levels up top, we should and could score a few more goals and we can at times be a bit wasteful. However, what a time to be an Imp.
