Following yesterday’s 2-0 win away at Rochdale in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Rasenimp said:

1. We can grind out an away performance. I think it was impressive to see us not hit our stride first half but then find enough quality to still be leading. We then hit another gear second half and were very, very good.

2. We’ve definitely found a balance of playing out the back and hitting a more direct pass. It was my worry with Appleton last year – dogmatic in playing out the back and not changing it when it wasn’t working. Montsma played a lot of accurate, direct passes which put us on the front foot today. A very good balance – Rochdale tried to hit the diagonal a bit but IMO looked to move the ball horizontally more than vertically, whereas we got up the pitch.

3. James Jones maybe has a little bit extra to his game now he is getting going. I think I saw him as a box to box goal threat but have been disappointed sometimes with his ability to unlock teams – he played a lot of good passes today and got his goal, and got back well at times! Some good interplay with McGrandles, if they both stay fit could be a very good long term central midfield for us.
