Following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at home against Plymouth Argyle in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

I for one have a massive grin on my face… Thank you, Jorge, thank you Brennan; thank you, Michael Appleton. 
1. We have a team of footballers that play for one another and play for the manager. So far every player has been at least a 7/10 all season. I can’t think of any performances where I’ve thought someone had an off game? The fact that all 11 gel so well into MA’s method of play is bearing fruit already and last night was no exception. Plymouth kept pace with us first half, but couldn’t keep up with us through the second half. They’re fit, motivated and together. I didn’t see a less than 7/10 performance again on Tuesday night?
2. I’m nitpicking, but we need to be more clinical. Like Fleetwood, on Tuesday night at times I thought that we’d get done by a sucker punch; especially having had the better chances first half and the early possession second half. That being said, after we got the pen, we could have had, and should have had, at least 4 goals Tuesday night had we put away some relatively straight forward chances. When we play better teams than Fleetwood, when those chances arise we need to put them away. Most chances have been down the ‘keepers throat rather than anything worldie?
3. Sort of ‘off-topic’ from a Lincoln point of view but: Plymouth fans still have delusional ‘big-team’ syndrome and I’ve been hounded by those in green & white tinted glasses that they’ll be up there for promotion or playoffs, seemingly ignoring my opinion of them that they can’t score and don’t have a recognised goal scorer. That fact was evident again on Tuesday night. They have a lot more to work on than us, COVID-influenced team selection or not. They’ll do well to finish mid-table. Looking through my ‘red & white tinted glasses’, Tuesday night was a good progress checker for us based against a team that got promoted from L2 last year; having ourselves only been promoted the season before. We can safely say we’re streets above the standard of L2 already.

1. What a time to be an imps fan. The team and squad has a little bit of everything. Let’s start at the back. The best, calmest and most assured keeper I have seen at the Bank in many a long year. Amazingly young but confident full-backs who are as adept at getting forward as well as their bread and butter defending role. Throw in ball-playing centre-halves who are also a threat in both boxes. Finally a bit of strength in depth and versatility.
2. A midfield that is dynamic and well balanced. Ball playing, ball-winning and creativity all in abundance. Particularly the first two, but Bridcutt, and Grant when inside, both have flair and Mcgrandles does the hard yards although it was not his best game on Tuesday night.
3. Going forward, well the bench on Tuesday night tells you all you need to know. It is frighteningly good to be able to call upon Scully, Anderson and Archibald, all who can change a game. Throw in Mr reliable ie Hopper leading the line, allied to the flair and creativity of Johnson and Grant, then you have a heady mix. When Morton is back it will be the final piece in the jigsaw and enable Hopper to have more breaks as his role is very demanding.
We are pretty good, aren’t we? I haven’t even mentioned Gotts, Soule or Elbouzedi. Trying to keep all the squad happy and involved is a bit of a challenge with quality players not getting in the first 11.
