Following yesterday’s 2-0 defeat away at Plymouth Argyle in the Second Round of The FA Cup, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. You’ve got to take your chances. Lincoln played some really good football today in the middle part of the football pitch but that doesn’t always win you games. Plymouth really only had a couple of chances before the game became stretched and they resulted in their goals. That was the simple truth of the match. Great attacking play needs that finish and that is what was lacking today.

2. Plymouth’s first goal came from a corner delivered well into the danger area. We had nine corners plus other dead ball situations yet none really caused them any concern when the ball eventually made its way into the box. I appreciate that a hoof in today wasn’t going to work due to their height advantage, but some work is needed to get those dead-ball situations to work.

3. The FA Cup was not a priority for the management team this season. Our good league start has perhaps changed how this cup match was seen today. It seems that they do see us genuine promotion challengers so the cup was not a priority. That was evident from the team selection and the post-match interview where MA was happy with the performance despite the result. If we play as well as we did today on Tuesday but also lose I don’t think he will be quite as calm.
