Ahead of tomorrow’s match away at Accrington Stanley in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

We have also published a quiz about the last time the two sides met at the Wham Stadium, which can be found HERE, and there is also another 15-question quiz at the bottom of this article! Have a go at both and share your results on Twitter if you’re on there!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said (article discussion link):

1. Don’t concede. This is a stating the bleedin’ obvious one, but even with those players brought into the club in the last few days we still don’t look like a team which is full of goals. So realistically we are only going to be scoring a goal a game. If we concede we are unlikely to win. If we keep the defence as tight as it has been of late then we have a more than decent chance of snatching a goal at the other end and even a scrappy 1-0 win will boost the confidence more than a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

2. Be braver when attacking. We have had a recent tendency to overplay it and be too cautious. One thing which was identified from the ‘highlights’ from our last away game at MK Dons was that we put together two cracking pass and move attacks which resulted in shots on target which forced their keeper into decent saves. This shows that the ability is there and such tactics can reap rewards. We just need to have that bit of courage to have a proper go when attacking. If it doesn’t come off then supporters will be that little bit more forgiving if the intent is obvious.

3. Play our game, not theirs. I had the chance to watch the Accrington-Leeds match on the telebox the other day before our game. They still play a forceful high press kind of game and use their physicality. In our recent Pizza Cup game against them, our game was reduced to theirs. This cannot happen as we could be bulldozered into defeat. Their keeper, if it is the same one who played last Saturday and in the game at ours the other week, if also not great playing it around at the back. Tom Hopper benefited from this in the Cup game and it was clear from the Leeds match that they do this irrespective of the opponent. Play a very high-pressure press on him and we could force a mistake.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
