Ahead of today’s match away at Oxford United in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what Chimpimp said:

1. The basics of winning don’t change. Keeping a clean sheet always goes a long way to three points. A lot of comment about defensive errors has arisen after the first four league games but no side has yet found Lincoln an easy touch despite a new and makeshift look to the Lincoln defence. A composed defensive performance and a clean sheet would be a big boost for the Imps.

2. The contribution of Lincoln’s summer arrivals will be key. Bishop looks like a good addition and has already shown his ability. Griffiths looks like a talented goalkeeper but has had a mixed start. Adelakun has shown glimpses of class but is yet to make a difference. Sørensen has been steady if unspectacular. A match-winning performance from a new recruit could be needed and might settle any doubts in the supporter’s minds.

3. The other unchanging requirement is to take your chances. If Anthony Scully can continue his early-season form, Lincoln supporters should be hopeful. He is full of confidence at the moment after a hat-trick in midweek.

Oxford will however be aware of his threat and a goal from a less likely source would be just as welcome. Step up Regan Poole, Liam Bridcutt, and the fan’s favourite Owen Goal.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
