Ahead of Saturday’s match at home against Burton Albion in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

You can discuss what has been said in this article HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Burton Albion Quiz, which can be found just below the first three things. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Treat it like an away game. In a reverse from last season, we have been much better at getting results when not playing on our own ground. Now that could be down to how the opposition set up making it a little more difficult to break them down, but the initial speed of play and thought just seems to be a little swifter when we are away from home. Passes are crisper and often a little bit more positive in their direction.

2. Run at their defence. Michael Bostwick and Neal Eardley are Imps heroes and if we were allowed in on Saturday both would get a deserved standing ovation from every one of us. But the reality is that we have upgraded our team and both of them are now getting on a little bit. All of the Burton defence is ageing. Our speedy attackers will be able to take full advantage of this if they get the chance to run at them.

3. Take nothing for granted. You look at the league table and this is a game the joint leaders should be winning with relative ease. This season, possibly more than any other I can recall, has been a strange beast. Home advantage is non-existent. Teams at the bottom will beat teams at the top, sometimes when only having one decent chance in a game (exhibit A: us home to Shrewsbury). So we need to not think about the big game at Hull three days later until after 5pm on Saturday. Have your game heads on and not a full belly of turkey.

How many clubs from Burton have played in the Football League?

And here’s what syimp said:

1. Start as we finished on Saturday, on the front foot. We need to be dynamic, fluid, fast-paced. Attack en masse, defend en masse. Pull them all over the field and they will tire. Press, press and press again, do not give an inch; we have the personnel who can do it. In short, suffocate them.

2. For once, we have a week to prepare for this one, so I would hope to see improved dead-ball delivery (maybe a new corner/free-kick routine, trying to find Jones on the edge of the box, which we have tried once, I believe, for instance?)

3. Get in behind them. Brave and combative though Bossie is, if we turn him, he will be vulnerable.

Get more bodies in the box. We need Hopper to get in front of the first defender and a trailer at the back post for those overhit crosses.

Footnote:- We’ve been doing all of the above in parts of games, but not over the whole piece.

Sooner or later, we’re going to stitch it all together.
